Mikhail Reshetnev was one of the founding fathers of the Russian and at that time Soviet space program. A prominent engineer, spacecraft designer, scientist and academician, Mikhail Reshetnev was the author of more than 200 research papers.

Mikhail Reshetnev was born in 1924 in a small town in the Odessa region. Having graduated from the Moscow Aviation Institute, he joined Sergey Korolev’s OKB-1 (Special Design Bureau) in 1950. As Korolev’s student and close associate, Mikhail Reshetnev was sent to a small Siberian town Krasnoyarsk-26 (today’s Zheleznogorsk) in 1959 to take over the leadership of the OKB-1 design bureau’s subsidiary.

Under his 36-year guidance, the company which started as a small team of engineers gathered for the technical supervision of rocket production, grew into a Soviet and Russian pioneer in satellite navigation, geodesy and data-relay projects, as well as country’s leading and largest builder of communication satellites. With Mikhail Reshetnev, the company built some 1000 satellites, more than 30 systems for all types of orbits, including middle Earth, highly elliptical and geostationary orbits.

For his outstanding contribution and excellence Mikhail Reshetnev was awarded a number of USSR prizes such as the Order of Lenin, the gold star medal of the Honorary Title "Hero of Socialist Labour", Lenin and State Prizes.

Not only the company bears Mikhail Reshetnev’s name, but there are the Siberian State University of Science and Technology (where Mikhail Reshetnev gave lectures and headed one of the departments), a square and a street in Zheleznogorsk, the Lyceum №102, a minor planet, medals of the ROSCOSMOS State Corporation and Russian Cosmonautics Federation that were also named after him.

Moreover, there is the annual international science and technology conference “Reshetnev Readings” held in commemoration of Mikhail Reshetnev. This year’s edition of the event will take place on November 11-15 in Zheleznogorsk and Krasnoyarsk.

In honor of the 95th birth anniversary of Mikhail Reshetnev the company will organize a series of meetings dedicated to its founder and first director, concerts, photography exhibition, sporting events and many other things.
