Successful launching of Express-AM44 spacecraft

Express-AM44 telecommunication spacecraft, developed at the JSC “Academician M.F. Reshetnev” Information Satellite Systems” was successfully launched.

Proton-M launch vehicle with Breeze-DM upper stage injected Express-AM44 and Express-MD1 spacecraft (Khrunichev State Cosmic Research and Production Center) into the orbit.

Nine hours after launching the first communication session with Express-AM44 satellite took place, and the first telemetry was received. Solar arrays of the satellite have deployed. Preparation of position control system is implemented. Spacecraft damping mode is carried out. Initial Sun acquisition mode is completed.

Express-AM44 spacecraft is developed by the JSC “ISS” jointly with Thales Alenia Space and by order of Ministry of Telecom & Mass Communication, Federal Space Agency and Russian Satellite Communication Company (RSCC). The spacecraft is designed for replenishment the Russian constellation of telecommunication satellites. The JSC “Academician M.F. Reshetnev” Information Satellite Systems” was responsible for the whole spacecraft, service systems module, payload module structure and devices of L-band. The French division of Thales Alenia Space manufactured and delivered the payload module.

Injected into orbit satellite is the seventh one of Express-AM family. It is dedicated to provide fixed and mobile communication, digital TV and radio broadcasting, multimedia services and data transmission, governmental and presidential communication. The satellite is carrying 16 transponders in Ku-band, 10 in C-band, and 1 in L-band. The launching mass of the satellite is 2532 kg, lifetime is 12 years.
