Creation of the Gonets personal communications satellite system
The Scientific and Technical Council of the ISS Company held an extended meeting to discuss the work schedule for the Gonets-D1M global personal communications satellite system.
The new multifunctional Gonets-D1M satellite series is being manufactured by the Reshetnev Company for the Russian Space Agency within the scope of the 2006–2015 Federal Space Program. The new satellites will be based on the Express-500 unpressurized small-class platform with a lifespan of 10 years.
The Scientific and Technical Council session brought together representatives of the ISS-Reshetnev company, the spacecraft developer, Gonets SatCom, the customer’s representative, and Research Institute of Precision Instruments, the supplier of the onboard repeater. The meeting resulted in the correction and refinement of technical parameters and satellite configuration as well fixing the delivery date.
The Gonets-D1M personal communications satellite system will include 24 spacecraft. The first Gonets-M1 satellite is scheduled for launch in 2014.
