Important milestone reached on Lybid satellite
ISS-Reshetnev Company has commenced integration of the Lybid satellite.
The company’s technical team is presently mating the spacecraft’s platform and payload module. Integration is a key stage in the manufacturing schedule of the satellite.
Successful integration, expected to be completed in December 2013, will pave the way for the team to begin testing of the satellite. Lybid is to undergo electrical, thermal and vacuum, mechanical and high-frequency tests. They will ensure proper operation of the satellite’s instruments and subsystems.
Lybid is being built under a contract with a Canadian company MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates (MDA) and is intended for Ukraine’s national communications satellite system. Based on ISS-Reshetnev’s middle-class Express-1000HT platform, the spacecraft is expected to carry out its mission in orbit for at least 15 years.
The telecommunications satellite Lybid is designed to provide a whole spectrum of services: regional and foreign TV and radio broadcasting, direct TV broadcasting, multimedia and Internet, as well as data transmission, telephony and videoconferencing based on VSAT technologies.
