ISS-Reshetnev proceeds with Loutch-5A
The JSC “Academician M.F. Reshetnev “Information Satellite Systems” has commenced manufacturing the Loutch-5A data relay satellite.
With the design documentation being finalized and the ground experimental verification nearing completion, the JSC “Information Satellite Systems” has started manufacturing components and assemblies for the Loutch-5A spacecraft. Meanwhile, the company’s industrial partners are busy making the satellite onboard equipment.
Thales Alenia Space, ISS-Reshetnev’s major subcontractor on the Loutch-5A project, is responsible for the supply of equipment for the payload module. When received, it will be assembled and integrated into the satellite platform at ISS’s new production room.
The Loutch-5A spacecraft is intended for the multifunctional space-based data relay system “Loutch”, which will also include two other satellites, Loutch-5B and Loutch-4. The three spacecraft will present a number of innovations regarding both the configuration of satellite systems and the use of advanced materials. Thus, the basis of the platform structure and the payload module structure will be honeycomb panels with embedded heat tubes. To make satellite antennas ISS is applying new technologies, such as unique gilded radio-reflecting meshes and carbon-reinforced materials.
Loutch-5A is scheduled for completion in 2010.
