ISS-Reshetnev’s satellite celebrates its 15th birthday in orbit
The Express-AM22 satellite, designed and built by ISS-Reshetnev Company, marked 15 years of successful operation in orbit.
The telecommunications satellite Express-AM22 was launched into the geostationary orbit on December 29, 2003. It was the first satellite in a modernized Express-AM series that was intended to augment and improve Russia’s orbital fleet of communications and broadcasting satellites. Express-AM22 was built by ISS-Reshetnev Company to provide television and radio broadcasting, telephony, videoconferencing, date communications, Internet access and VSAT services.
Today the satellite continues carrying out its mission in orbit as a part of the constellation run by RSCC – Russia’s national satellite operator, having already outlasted its designed active lifespan of 12 years.
