87-th Anniversary of Mikhail Reshetnev’s birth

ISS-Reshetnev’s staff members have paid tribute to Mikhail Reshetnev, the founder and the first general director of the company, on his 87th birth anniversary.

On November 10, 2011, ISS-Reshetnev’s management team and M. Reshetnev’s colleagues and friends paid a floral tribute to his monument in Reshetnev Square. Later the same day ISS-Reshetnev’s management together with the regional and municipal authorities took part in another important event – the opening of a memorable stone commemorating the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s space flight.

Meanwhile, the 15th International Conference “Reshetnev Readings” was opened at Siberian State Aerospace University. Besides, a range of cultural and sports events were organized in memory of Mikhail Reshetnev. ISS-Reshetnev’s staff members took an active part in races and mini football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis and chess competitions. The company’s photo contest had been held on the eve of Mikhail Reshetnev’s 87th birth anniversary.

M.F. Reshetnev was an outstanding satellite designer, academician, Lenin Prize and USSR State Prize laureate. Не was one of the followers of the legendary Sergey Korolev. In 1959 Mikhail Reshetnev was appointed head of the Siberian space company, which during his 36-year administration evolved into a leading Russian enterprise in the sphere of manufacturing satellites for communications, television broadcasting, data-relaying, navigation and geodetic missions.

The most well-known spacecraft designed and manufactured in his lifetime were Molnia, Raduga, Gorizont, Loutch, Ekran, Gals, Express and Glonass.

With Mikhail Reshetnev the сompany signed a contract for the manufacture of the SESAT telecommunications satellite for the European satellite operator Eutelsat, and, thus, entered the international market.
