Glonass-M satellite readies for launch
A Glonass-M navigation satellite, designed and built by ISS-Reshetnev Company, has already been delivered to the Plesetsk cosmodrome.
The Glonass-M satellite left ISS-Reshetnev’s facilities and was securely delivered to the Plesetsk cosmodrome on April 13.
As of now, a joint team of technical specialists from ISS-Reshetnev Company and the cosmodrome are preparing the satellite and its separation system for the upcoming launch. Work to be performed includes mating the satellite to the separation system, its connecting with the upper stage, a series of component and integrated tests.
Launch of the Glonass-M satellite is scheduled for May 13, 2019. It will be sent to orbit as part of the Federal Target Program aimed at the sustainment of the GLONASS orbital constellation. When in orbit, the new Glonass-M satellite will replace a retired one that has already outlived its designed lifespan.
