ISS-Reshetnev building Cosmos-CX spacecraft
ISS-Reshetnev has completed the first set of tests on the EQM of the Cosmos-CX earth remote sensing satellite.
The Cosmos-CX spacecraft is the first satellite based on the new Express-500 small-class platform. The EQM test campaign has verified the satellite’s structural strength and vibration resistance as well as the logic of deployable mechanisms.
The next step involves implementing and testing new technologies. In particular, it is planned to improve the satellite specifications by reducing the mass of its solar panels.
The Cosmos-CX satellites are being built for the Russian Ministry of Agriculture. They will allow collection of high-precision satellite data on the condition of agricultural fields as well as crop yield forecasting and assessment. Besides, the new satellites will enable forecasts of droughts, floods, and other natural phenomena that might cause damage to the national agricultural complex, and minimize their consequences.
