New framework agreement between ISS-Reshetnev and Saft
Information Satellite Systems – Reshetnev Company and a French firm Saft signed a new framework contract for the supply of lithium-ion storage batteries for telecommunications satellites.
The agreement between the largest Russian satellite manufacturer – ISS-Reshetnev and Saft was signed on June 15 during the International Paris Air Show Le Bourget 2015. It prolongs the validity of the previous contract which was signed by the two companies for the supply of lithium-ion storage batteries for ISS-Reshetnev’s commercial communications satellites.
Saft’s Li-ion light-weight solutions provide critical power support to telecommunications satellites built around ISS-Reshetnev’s Express platforms not leading to the increase in a satellite’s mass. As a result, it becomes possible to equip satellites with additional mission-critical payloads. Lithium-ion batteries provide power for satellites, thus ensuring their reliable performance, during eclipse periods in the geostationary orbit when satellites’ solar panels are blocked from the Sun and cannot convert its solar energy into electrical power to run the satellite.
Starting from 2008 Saft has provided its high technology batteries for eleven commercial satellites based on ISS-Reshetnev’s Express family of platforms. This new framework agreement will enable ISS-Reshetnev to continue using lithium-ion batteries as one of the advanced solutions that help the company to manufacture satellites on a level with the highest world standards.
