Preparing a satellite “Express-AM33” for launch

The Reshetnev NPO PM telecom satellite “Express-AM33” is undergoing launch preparations at Baikonur Cosmodrome.

The spacecraft was created in the shortest time. The state contract for development, production and delivery of the “Express-AM33/44” satellites took effect from July 1, 2006.

The test works for the “Express-AM33” spacecraft were accomplished in late December 2007. On January 2, the spacecraft was ready to be sent to the launch pad. According to the operations plan it was delivered to Baikonur. Now the NPO PM specialists are carrying out works at the cosmodrome to get the satellite prepared for the launch.

The telecom satellite “Express-AM33” is created by NPO PM in cooperation with Thales Alenia Space under the State contract with Roskosmos, Information and Communication Ministry and Russian Space Communication Company. The satellite mission is to provide communication, TV & radio broadcasting, multimedia and data transmitting, mobile official call service.

NPO PM is a major contractor responsible for the satellite building on the whole including its operation systems’ module, payload module construction and L-band devices. Thales Alenia Space supplies NPO PM with a payload module according to the contract with RSCC.

The “Express-AM” spacecraft fleet provides updated telecom satellites to recover national orbital constellation. The new satellites have a longer lifespan, a larger number of transponders and a more intensive output signal.
