SESAT Project as a Bright Example of the Russian-European Cooperation in Space
International aerospace exhibition Paris Air Show 2013, Le Bourget. Within the event the Academician M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems held a welcome reception for Russian and foreign partners who were involved in the Siberian-European Satellite (SESAT) project realization.
SESAT is known to be the first telecommunication project in aerospace history of Russia realized in the interest of a foreign customer. This spacecraft was performed by the JSC ISS-Reshetnev under the contract with EUTELSAT, a European operator, and put into orbit in the year 2000. To manufacture a satellite with a ten-year service life – was the first experience in domestic cosmonautics. The more, SESAT became the most powerful satellite ever created in Russia by that time. Its platform, developed by the Reshetnev’s specialists, served as a basis for many types of further spacecraft; a lot of technical solutions were implemented in different modern satellites. The fact of its successful functioning in orbit for 13 years instead of the planned 10, proves the satellite’s high reliability.
Within the SESAT project realization the Reshetnev Company performed tight international cooperation with foreign firms. In creating the satellite Thales Alenia Space became a main subcontractor, this collaboration grows steadily. Leading European manufacturers of space equipment participated in this work as well.
A welcome reception which took part on the first day of the 50th aerospace exhibition Paris Air Show anniversary, brought together ISS Reshetnev’s partners who played key role in this project realization. The guests were Eutelsat, Thales Alenia Space representatives, as well as other European and Russian companies who have been working in collaboration with the Reshetnev’s Company.
