Launch of a communication satellite
A Meridian communications satellite, designed and built by ISS-Reshetnev Company, was launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome on February 20, 2020.
The Meridian satellite was carried into orbit on a Soyuz-2/Fregat launcher. The launch went off without a hitch, shortly after data links were quickly established by ground teams allowing them to assume control of the satellite.
The deployment of solar panels and antennas was successful and the satellite established its orientation relative to the Earth and Sun. ISS-Reshetnev experts initiated checks and tests of the satellite before transferring it to its customer for operational work.
The Meridian satellite is designed to provide telecommunications services for ice observation ships and airplanes on the Northern Sea Route as well as in the Nordic regions of Siberia and the Far East.
