Students’ new satellite to be created at the JSC “ISS”
Work on the students’ new small-class spacecraft has began at the JSC “Academician M.F. Reshetnev “Information Satellite Systems”.
At present specialists of the ISS’s design department have issued basic data for the new small-class spacecraft. In addition, the composition of the small-class satellite’s on-board equipment has been determined.
The satellite-building work is being performed in close cooperation with M.F. Reshetnev Siberian State Aerospace University. Students and young scientists are involved at all stages: from issuing basic data to developing and producing satellite components. It is also planned to get Moscow Aviation Institute along with Tomsk State University of Control Systems to take part in the work performed.
The name for the future spacecraft will be chosen during a special contest. The launch of the students’ satellite is scheduled for the end of 2009.
The students’ spacecraft is being built under the auspices of the Scientific and Educational Center “Space Systems and Technologies”. The Center was established in October last year by the JSC “ISS” jointly with Siberian State Aerospace University so as to carry out joint projects. One of its main objectives is to prepare teams of young specialists applying project-oriented training techniques aimed to help students with their future work in the space industry.
