GLONASS system welcomes a new satellite
A new Glonass-M navigation satellite, designed and built by Information Satellite Systems – Reshetnev Company, was successfully launched into orbit on September 22, 2017.
The Glonass-M №52 satellite made its journey to the intended orbit on a Soyuz-2/Fregat rocket from the Plesetsk launch base.
With the satellite already completed Sun and Earth acquisition, a joint team of the Krasnoznamensk-based Titov Main Test Center and ISS-Reshetnev specialists have already commenced checking out performance of the satellite’s service subsystems.
Upon completing testing, the Glonass-M №52 satellite will be commissioned to the orbital constellation of the GLONASS global satellite navigation system. Glonass-M №52 is intended to replace a retired satellite that has outperformed its design lifespan.
