Yubileiny’s first anniversary
the small-class satellite Yubileiny created by the JSC “Academician M.F. Reshetnev “Information Satellite Systems” jointly with a number of cooperating enterprises marked its first in-orbit anniversary.
The satellite was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the launch of the first artificial earth satellite. It was built by the JSC “ISS” jointly with the Aerospace Vehicle Laboratory (Kaluga), the Research & Production Enterprise “Geophisika-Cosmos” (Moscow), the JSC “Saturn” (Krasnodar), S.A. Lavochkin Research & Production Association (Moscow), JSC “RPKB” (Ramenskoye), M.V. Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center (Moscow) and Siberian State Aerospace University (Krasnoyarsk). The satellite is used to test new satellite equipment and systems, as well as to provide information on the history of space exploration and national cosmonautics for radio fans. The satellite employs an unpressurized platform.
The satellite service life is one year. Although the guaranteed 12 months have already been worked out, the satellite is still operating successfully, with no malfunctions noticed. All its systems are operating properly in the nominal mode.
On May 25, Victor Kosenko, the first deputy general designer and general director of the JSC “ISS” along with Sergey Galochkin, the ISS lead manager, and Andrei Yakovlev, deputy head of the design department, attended Siberian State Aerospace University to take part in festive activities organized on the occasion of the Yubileiny’s launch anniversary. At the press-conference the SIBSAU rector Gennady Belyakov made a speech, in which he emphasized the historic role of the Yubileiny project. ‘The success of the project is mainly determined by effective technical solutions provided by the JSC “ISS”, the main developer of the satellite,’ said Gennady Belyakov. In his speech, Victor Kosenko mentioned that the project performed a very important educational function and was a perfect means of preparing young specialists for their future carriers in the space industry. After the press-conference a communication session between the Yubileiny satellite and the students’ mission control center was held.
