Successful launching of three “Glonass-M” spacecraft
On three “Glonass-M” navigation spacecraft are launched from Baikonur launching site. The satellites are designed and manufactured at the JSC “Academician M.F. Reshetnev” Information Satellite Systems”.
The launching was carried out in a normal mode. The block #38 of three “Glonass-M” navigation satellites (#24, #25, #26) is orbited by “Proton-M” launch vehicle and “DM” booster into circular orbit with altitude of 19140 km. The spacecraft control is implemented by modernized MCC-U, Ministry of Defense, located in Krasnoznamenskoye, with support of specialists of the JSC “ISS” Information-calculating complex. The satellite mass is about 1450 kg, lifetime is 7 years.
In December the next three “Glonass-M” spacecraft will be launched. Thus, in 2008 the global navigation satellite system of Russia will be replenished with new six spacecraft.
GLONASS orbital constellation replenishment is one of the national scale foreground tasks. This work is determined by the “Global navigation system” Federal goal program. According to the latest correction of the program, it is supposed essential increasing the volume of work and financing. Thus, the JSC “ISS” will manufacture extra 11 “Glonass-M” satellites.
At present time, the Reshetnev Company started manufacturing “Glonass-K” navigation spacecraft of next generation.
