NPO PM participated the GLONASS related General Designer Board
NPO PM delegation headed by Mr. Nickolay Testoedov, NPO PM General Designer and General Director, participated the meeting of the General Designer Board devoted to the GLONASS program.
The meeting of the General Designer Board was held on , 2007, near Moscow, at the RNII KP premises. Among the attendees there were the delegations of the space enterprises involved into the implementation of the Russian Federal Purpose-oriented Program «Global Navigation System». The meeting was open with the welcoming speech made by Mr. Yuri Urlichich, RNII KP general director and general designer. He also reported the current status of the GLONASS system production, development and employment activities.
The NPO PM delegation headed by Mr. Nickolay Testoedov, NPO PM General Designer and General Director, made several reports concerning the progress of the GLONASS spacecraft development and manufacture activities performed at the NPO PM premises. The first deputy of the NPO PM general designer and general director, Mr. Victor Kosenko addressed the issues of the GLONASS system status and made some proposals on the maintenance of the orbital constellation, on the reliability improvement of the spacecraft subsystems and the ground control segment. The head of the NPO PM subdivsion, Mr. Vassily Zvonar made a report titled «Design outlines of the perspective GLONASS-K spacecraft and the current spacecraft development status». The GCS chief designer Vladimir Kovalev informed the attendees on the current status and development perspectives for the GLONASS ground control segment. Within the frame of the meeting of General Designer Board, the press conference was held, for which more than 60 Russian and foreign journalists were accredited. The top managers of Roscosmos, Russian Ministry of Defense and major enterprises of the space industry took part in this press conference. Answering the questions asked by the journalists, Mr. Nickolay Testoedov, NPO PM general designer and general director, underlined that all activities related to the manufacture of satellites to replenish the GLONASS constellation are performed to the nominal schedule. Today, the company is in position to double the output rate for new navigation satellites. In particular, last year NPO PM manufactured four navigation satellites, in 2007 NPO PM will prepare eleven satellites for launch; in 2008 there will be twelve satellites prepared for launch. Speaking about the new generation satellites GLONASS-K, Mr. Nickolay Testoedov mentioned that these satellites would have the improved performances and increased lifetime.
The Reshetnev NPO Prikladnoi Mekhaniki is the prime enterprise in creating satellites to renew the GLONASS orbital constellation. This year, six GLONASS-M satellites are to be inserted into the orbit. As for the new generation GLONASS-K satellites, they are being developed.
