Recently launched Glonass-M goes operational
A navigation satellite Glonass-M №53, designed and built by Academician M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems, has been fully commissioned into operation.
The Glonass-M №53 satellite started providing services upon completing a series of in-orbit flight tests. The satellite which was placed into orbit on May 29, 2016 helps maintain the orbital constellation of the GLONASS system in its full operational capabilities with the required number of satellites.
As of today, there are seven Glonass-M satellites that are stored at ISS-Reshetnev’s facilities, the so-called ground spares. All of them were designed and constructed by the company as part of the Federal Target Program “Maintenance, development and utilization of the GLONASS system during 2012-2020”.
