Framework agreement with SAFT
ISS-Reshetnev Company and a French company SAFT signed a framework agreement for the supply of high-efficiency energy storage systems.
The five-year agreement defines the terms of delivery of SAFT-made lithium-ion batteries intended for ISS-Reshetnev's commercial telecommunications satellites. Batteries for ISS-Reshetnev's satellites will be supplied at fixed prices for the duration of the document.
For its new satellites ISS-Reshetnev Company will use both batteries series that has already accumulated flight heritage as part of the company's earlier projects, and next-generation energy storage systems featuring increased energy and capacity characteristics. Compared to the previous generation of batteries, the new ones have their energy increased by seven percent.
The use of lithium-ion batteries will provide high energy characteristics of satellite power supply systems without increasing their mass, which could allow the inclusion of an additional commercial payload.
To date, 15 ISS-Reshetnev satellites have been equipped with SAFT energy storage systems. Lithium-ion batteries for them were supplied under previously signed agreements.
