AMOS-5: Progress of Work
The JSC “Academician M.F. Reshetnev “Information Satellite Systems” is finalizing design documentation for the AMOS-5’s EQM to undergo dynamic tests.
The engineering qualification model of the Amos-5 satellite is intended as a trial model for testing the satellite’s structural strength. In design, the EQM is a maximal approximation to the flight-ready spacecraft, with mock-ups instead of real equipment.
The ISS–Reshetnev has already proceeded to the production of the model. Currently, it is engaged in making mock-up thermal tubes, payload devices, antennas, and other technological equipment. A solar array wing and a model of the separation device are also in production.
The Amos-5 satellite is being built for the Israeli communications service provider, SPACE COMMUNICATION LTD. Thales Alenia Space is the subcontractor for the manufacture of the repeater and antennas. The satellite will employ the Express-1000H platform to provide 5.6-kilowatt power for the payload. With thirty-six C- and Ku-band transponders on board, the spacecraft will weigh 1.6 tons. AMOS-5 is expected to operate as long as 15 years.
